Illustration of tooth being extractedIf you have a tooth that’s been damaged, we’ll first evaluate if your situation is more suitable for a filling, dental crown or other treatment. Occasionally, though, the tooth is too weakened and must be extracted. Some of the common reasons to have a tooth removed include :

  • Baby teeth that don’t fall out before permanent teeth come in
  • Extra teeth blocking other teeth from coming in
  • Infection
  • To create room before getting braces that will move teeth into the proper place
  • Wisdom teeth that are erupting or will erupt

What Does an Extraction Involve?

We’ll examine your oral health to determine the best way to perform the extraction. X-rays will allow a deeper look, and we use only images that are low-radiation and necessary to understand your situation. You’ll be numbed, and we won’t proceed until you’re certain that you can’t feel anything. A simple extraction takes just 20-30 minutes. In more complex cases, we may book you time with a specialist who visits our practice. We can also refer you to someone else in our professional network.

Please bring a list of all medicines you take. We’ll advise you on aftercare instructions, including whether antibiotics are necessary.
